| John Thompson former CEO for the United Way of Kitchener-Waterloo and AREA John Thompson is the former CEO for the United Way of Kitchener-Waterloo and AREA. He held this role for over 28 years until retiring in 2005. However, retirement didn't stop John as he continues to be a leading community volunteer in the KW area. John has founded and / or chaired a number of organizations including the Kitchener Sports Association, Canadian Association of Retired Persons, Waterloo county hall of fame, Waterloo Hockey 'Wall of Fame', KW Athlete of the Year program, the Sports and Scholarships program and golf tournament and the Tournament of hope golf classic. All of these organizations donate significant amounts of money to charities and individuals in the local area. John has also chaired or played a major role in a number of national and international sporting events in this area including the Memorial Cup, Canadian Me's National Fastpitch championships, the International Softball Congress world championships (3 times) and Waterloo Siskins 75th anniversary. John is also an accomplished author finding time to write 'Hockey night in Mildmay' which was published in 2006. John is an excellent organizer, leader and motivator. His passion and drive is contagious and his contributions have gone a long way in making the KW community and better place to live. |
